With the arrival of warm weather, we will once again be having extra outdoor classes at Laumeier Sculpture Park.
Outdoor classes add a new dimension to training. Stance work requires more concentration since we’re no longer on the smooth tile floor. When we work on hillsides, every moving basic and kata becomes a re-learning experience. Each one is practiced in multiple directions so the student can practice moving up, down or laterally on the hill. The additional focus required to remain balanced (or is some cases, even standing!!) removes the temptation to “sleepwalk” through the drill. As an added bonus, our legs, hip, knees and ankles all gain additional stength from the new stresses placed upon them.
We will be adding these into the curriculum again beginning this week! Come join us. There’s always room for more!!
